Good way to get rid of dark circles around eyes?
I have dark circles/bags under my eyes. They annoy me a lot. I usually put some cover up on them but it only really gets rid of the colour, the faint lines are still there. So what can I do to get rid of the completely? I’m not allowed to go buy any products for it so it has to be home remedies.

I get 7-9 hours of sleep and I use multiple face cleansers etc.

    • ka says:

Most of it is genetic. I have them to. Just get lots of sleep, and try not be stressed to much. I also have heard that when you cry a lot under eye circles appear darker. Not sure if it’s true tho. Also drink plenty of water. Getting a bit of color in your face as well as putting cold spoons under eyes may help. Get ShiSeido Benefiance Revitalizing Cream. I got mine from Macy’s and just a tiny dab of it does wonders on dark circles.

vitamin E oil, olive oil, cucumbers, & a doctor can also help. I have pretty bad ones so this is all from experience.

      Hope this helps. :)

Some tips that you can try at home

1.dark circles 2Cool as a Cucumber: The most trusted method to get rid of the dark circles is by placing cucumber pieces on your eyes for 15 minutes after a tiring day of work. They will refresh you as well as hydrate the area beneath the eyes and lessen the appearance of dark circles. Applying cucumber juice will also help reduce puffiness of the eyes.

2.Almond oil: Gently apply almond oil to your eyes for 10 minutes for two to three weeks. Almond oil will provide that much needed moisture to the skin, lighten the color and improve the circulation near the eyes. Be consistent for best effects.

3.dark circles Shades up: Help your eyes by wearing sunglasses whenever venturing out in the sun. Also make sure the sun glasses have wider frame that protects the skin near the eyes too. Also don’t forget to apply sunscreen with at least SPF 15 on all areas exposed as well as around the eyes.

4.Tea bags for the eye bags: Yes, you can use the used tea bags or new ones to fight the dark circles. Tea contains anti oxidant properties and when tea bags frozen overnight are applied to the skin, it cools the eyes and nourishes the skin.

5.dark circles Leave it to mint: Take 12-15 mint leaves and grind them to paste. Apply this paste under your skin for 15 minutes for two weeks. Mint leaves are so effective that adding them to your diet also helps in reducing dark circles.

6.Rose water: You can also dip cotton balls in rose water and then apply them to the area beneath the eyes.

I am pale skinned and am very dark under the eyes. I am sick of wearing concealer and I get plenty of sleep and eat right. I wondered if there was a medical procedure out there, to get rid of dark circles forever.

    • Mushaw! says:

Lots of people use Preparation H under the eyes. Your problem is from having thin capillaries around that area. You should keep some sort of soothing eye mask on during sleep to keep that area cool at night. You can also apply vaseline before you sleep to keep in extra moisture. Be sure to drink plenty of water.

      Remedies For Dark Circles

      * An instant dark circles remedy is to use the correct concealer. The shade should be lighter than your foundation. If circles are very dark, choose 2 shades lighter. Great choices can be Revlon New Complexion Concealer, Estee Lauder Smoothing Skin Concealer, Cover Girl Smoothers Concealer, or Neutrogena Smoothing Skin Stick.

      * Apply a good Vitamin K cream. Vita-K Solution gel or Peter Thomas Roth Power K Eye Rescue help strengthen capillary walls around the dark circles to make them less visible.

      * One should go for laser treatment only if the case is chronic. Lasers can increase production of collagen thereby thickening skin to make dark circles less visible.

      * Home remedies for dark circles can include the following:
      1. Drink plenty of water to combat dehydration.
      2. Wear at least SPF 30 sunscreen to prevent more sun damage.
      3. Get enough sleep.
      4. Leave cold teabags, cucumber or potato slices, or washcloths with ice cubes on eyes for 15 minutes regularly.
      5. Take iron supplements if anemic, but consult your doctor first.
      6. Identify the allergens and avoid them. Whether it be pollen, food, whatever, avoidance is the best solution to this. And avoid rubbing your eyes.

      * Hylexin is the first dark circles eye cream developed for serious dark circles. Featured in several magazines such as Marie Claire, FashionWeekDaily, The Wall Street Journal , Star and Luck.

      * One of the greatest remedies for dark circles is Arbonne’s NutriMinC® RE9 Repair. It’s a corrective puffiness and dark circles eye cream that does additional benefits – firming, moisturizing and repairing the delicate tissue around the eye.

I have a wheatish skin colour and very dark circles under my eyes ( not bags ). I was wondering whether you have a product which will completely eliminate dark eye circles? I have used many products, however, they have always been concealers to cover up the dark circles and not remove them.
Could you please inform me whether you have a product which will COMPLETELY ELIMINATE dark eye circles?

P.S Do know any anti-shine whitening cream?

    • Alicia says:

I think there is no such product to remove your dark circles completely… you can apply potato on your eyes.

slice potatoes and then put it in refrigerator for 30 mins then put it on your eyes before sleeping… You will see effect within 10 days.

And for whitening you can apply Ponds whitening cream

There are many causes of dark circles, from age, heredity, allergies, cold or sinus infection, bone structure and glasses which are not so commonly known.

If you would like to apply home remedies to reduce dark circles, here are some of my suggestions:
Buy a box of regular, old fashioned unflavored gelatin (e.g. Knox) from grocery store. Take a small cup or bowl and put in 1 teaspoon of the gelatin mix. Add one tablespoon of boiling water & stir for a minute. Test it on your wrist to make sure it is not too hot. Then, using a cotton ball, pat it under your eyes as you would an eye cream or gel. Go lie down and listen to some music, or take a bath & let it stay on for at least 30 minutes. Then just rinse it off.Gelatin is very high in Vitamin K & Biotin. It will not remove your dark circles on the first application (but you will notice a difference), but if you do it daily for a week, and then 2-3 times a week for maintenance, you should notice a drastic reduction in dark circles.

DO NOT listen to the guy who said bleach!! That is the worst thing you could ever use on your FACE, let alone near your eyes!

Dark circles or Eye circles are dark blemishes around the eyes. Also known as “bags under the eyes,” there are many etiologies to cause this symptom. For instance, by lack of sleep, by heredity and by bruising.

      Heredity
Like varicose veins, dark circles under the eyes are usually an inherited trait. The skin under the eye is very thin. When blood passes through the large veins close to the surface of the skin it can produce a bluish tint. The more transparent the skin also an inherited trait the darker the circles appear. In people with a deep-set bone structure, shadowing contributes to the dark color under the eyes.

      Medications
Any medications that cause blood vessels to dilate can cause circles under the eyes to darken. Because the skin under the eyes is very delicate, any increased blood flow shows through the skin.

      Anemia
The lack of nutrients in the diet, or the lack of a balanced diet, can contribute to the discoloration of the area under the eyes. It is believed that lack of mineral iron can cause dark circles as well. Iron deficiency is the most common type of anemia and this condition is a sign that not enough oxygen is getting to the body tissues.
The skin can also become more pale during pregnancy and menstruation (due to lack of iron), which again allow the underlying veins under the eyes to become more visible.

      Fatigue
A lack of sleep or excessive tiredness can cause paleness of the skin, which again allows the blood underneath the skin to become more visible and appear more blue or darker.
Some skin care experts say that fatigue has nothing to do with the dark circles, but it has to do with when one lies down since gravity can cause fluid to collect in the lower eye lid.

      Age
Dark circles are likely to become more noticeable and permanent with age. Excess folds of skin under the eyes will also make dark circles more pronounced.

      Medical conditions
Another cause may be bad blood circulation. Cardio exercise increases blood circulation and may help the dark circles to disappear.
Dark eye circles could be a sign of excessive loss of water from the body (dehydration).

Simple Home Remedies found in your kitchen
Although to date, there has been no end-all to curing or reducing dark circles, there are many home-made ingredients that can help make the dark circles less visible. For example it is said drinking plenty of fluids and a lot of rest can suffice.

      Tea Bags
Put tea bags under the eyes for 20 minutes everyday. You can just wet the bags with lukewarm water and place it under the eye when it has cooled down or chilled.

      Potato Juice
Potato Juice is one of the best way to reduce dark circles. Grind the potato and apply it immediately for 20 minutes everyday with the help of a cotton. You will see results immediately and within a couple of weeks much improved results.

      Cucumber Juice
Cucumber Juice is another way which is widely known and most used. Grind the cucumber and apply the juice with the help of cotton for 20 minutes, this also gives a good result.

      Massage
One treatment is to massage almond oil with honey around the eyes before going to bed. This will lighten the skin around eyes and brighten it considerably. Also, try gentle massage around eyes while taking shower. The steam from the shower helps for effective massage. However, some say that the constant rubbing will only cause the circles under the eye to become worse. Just do it sometimes.

      Good luck :)

    • Mukunda M says:

This is a quick and a permanent solution.
It truly works and got rid of mine and those of wannabeblue 28 and Candi:) below.

wannabeblue28: “Hi Mukunda M. I have just been rubbing my face with oil using my fingers and hands and It has made a HUGE difference in my complexion after just one night. …… My skin looks so much tighter everywhere and i no longer have bags under my eyes! Thank you so much for your post, I have been suffering with acne and under-eye circles since i was young.”

Candi:) “I tried this a day or 2 ago, OMGosh it workedd out amazingly, thx some much and thx to you who ansered, they were all good answers. =D”

Vigorous massaging with pure natural oils quickly and permanently rid my face of acne AND removed my bags/circles. It greatly tightens skin under and around the eye area and the bags go away.
Use both hands with front of palms and fingers held together:
      (1) Long up and down sweeps close to nose from chin area up to near eyes.
      (2) Do another up and back at an angle from near chin point to cheek bone.
      (3) Do fast up and down massage close to eye from cheek bones at an angle of 45 degrees (on your crows feet).

Best if do for several minutes daily (not necessarily in one session) – skin will visibly tighten in eye area and the circles will diminish in the first two or three days.
IMPORTANT: To avoid skin pulling first make skin taught by partially opening mouth and pulling lips firmly back against teeth (tightens most of face)
Use any natural oil. Extra virgin olive and E.V. coconut oils work well for many. They are noncomedogenic – so do not clog or enlarge pores or cause breakouts

Additionally facial yoga exercises help a great deal. Find on You Tube. Do the “The lion face” and try to hold for 30 seconds. A variation of that is protruding the tongue as if trying to touch tip of nose with tip of tongue.
YOGA MEDITATION is a great help also and is easy to do. It enables you to completely relax and gives you deep, restful sleep. 6 hours of restful sleep is considerably more beneficial than 8 or 9 more hours of non restful sleep.

ok im serious! i know this sounds REALLY really weird but it works!!! It works on me and i have really bad dark circles! You get a orangish lip stick. Apply it to where ever your dark circles are. Pat it on, don’t rub it in. Then put on your concealer or foundation(i use the mary kate and ashley 2in1 double concealer thing from walmart for like 3dollars it works miracles! But don’t buy the realy expensive stuff its no different.) The orange cancels out the blueish tint of dark circles. But if your mom won’t let you wear concealer or foudation. Beg her or…
you can try a different method:
Get an ice cube wrap it in a paper towel. apply it to your eye for like 10min every night. Or drink lots of water! you may be dehydrated. so drink about 3 16.9oz bottles of water a day. That equals 6glasses of water. and your supposed to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. Another method i heard was applying cucumbers to your eyes for 10-15 minutes. or potatoes REALLY work i know it sounds funny just put them on your eyes for like 10-20 minutes a night.

Hope this helps!!! All these methods really helped me! :]]

      dark circles look good.
but besides that, they might come from allergies or not getting enough oxygen like from breathing problems i think. they could be from skin thinning in that area or blood vessels that are showing from underneath the thin skin. they could also be darker from you rubbing the delicate area and then the sun will darken them.. so you should maybe wear some sunblock and sunglasses to prevent darkening and aging of the skin in that area. it does help.
i didn’t get dark circles until i was 18 and i got allergies, they were also probably from aging too.. and i would rub my eyes alot and step out in the sun without protection..

    • Roseknows says:

There are a couple of things you can do. It also depends on what is causing them.

One of the most common causes is not enough sleep. Make sure you get enough sleep a night. And another cause is drinking too much alcohol. Lay off the party life and get more sleep and that will eliminate a lot of the problem.

Also, using lanolin helps. It is relatively cheap, easy to find and helps to moisturize around the eye area. There are a lot of cosmetics and makeups that have it in it, so if you use a concealer, having lanolin in it really helps.

But the best way to get rid of them is to get more sleep and lay off the party life.

I’m 14 years old and I don’t know why I have dark circles under my eyes. They just kind of appeared overnight one day several years ago. Are there any risks to using it? Thanks!

    • Imogen says:

The Garnier roll on thing is good.
Home remedies would be tea bags or cucumbers.

I put them in the fridge for 15 minutes before using them so they’re cool and take away any puffiness of the eyes.

Apparently more sleep gets them away, but it doesn’t really work for me. Less stress or exercise might work.

      Salmon coloured concealer works.
or orange lipstick with foundation over it – believe me, this sounds stupid but it really works!

      hope this helps! :)

I get dark circles under my eyes all the time. I need a home remedy to be rid of them. Any Ideas?

    • Mukunda M says:

I got rid of them with just one or two applications of treatment given below. Also see ### below – the happy response from Wannabeblue28 who says treatment got rid of under eye bags/circles as well as giving her a greatly improved skin after one night’s treatment: AND another response from Candi

Oil massage will greatly tighten skin on cheeks and under and around eye area and greatly diminish or completely get rid of bags /circles. You need to vigorously massage into skin using a forward and back massage – not circular.

Use both hands with front of palms and fingers held together, do vigorous (that’s important) massaging:
      (1) Long up and down sweeps close to nose from chin area up to near eyes.
      (2) Do another up and back at an angle from near chin point to cheek bone.
      (3) Do fast up and down massage close to eye from cheek bones at an angle of 45 degrees (on your crow’s feet).

Best if do for several minutes daily (not necessarily in one session) – skin will visibly tighten in eye area and the circles and lines will diminish in one, two or three days.
IMPORTANT: To avoid skin pulling first make skin taught by partially opening mouth and pulling lips firmly back against teeth (tightens most of face)
Use any pure natural oil. Extra virgin olive and E.V. coconut oils work well for many. They are noncomedogenic – so do not clog or enlarge pores or cause breakouts

For more detailed massaging technique and more testimonials research my other answers.

I know this is going to sound weird – but try putting Preparation H under your eyes. It will cause the tissues to contract, forcing the blood back into circulation and out of those “bags”.
You can also reduce the swelling just like you would for any bruise. Put a couple of ice cubes in a plastic bag, wrap the bag in a layer of tee-shirt (or other lightweight material) and ice the area for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Do an Answers search and you will see many have tried all the under eye and dark bags creams and under eye rollers and report they were not even slightly effective.
There is an epidemic of under eye bags and circles and many are reported by those in teens or early twenties. The main reason is reaction to skin sickening toxins in skin care, cosmetic and skin medicating products. Many teenage girls use 20 or more products daily and an alarming number of products contain skin(and health) harming toxins. See this site Skin Deep Cosmetic Database. A Feelgood Resource. The Database tested many thousands of products and identifies which ones are the most harming and those which are non or only minimally harming. So first thing to do is select the none or least harming products.

Then try these safe, natural, tried and tasted treatments that quickly and permanently get rid of them. They really work and have helped many on Answers

This is a response I received from wannabeblue28:

She had seen an answer I gave about how vigorous face massaging with pure natural oils had permanently rid my face of acne AND removed my bags/circles. Massage greatly tightens skin under and around the eye area and the bags go away. Find Answer with a search “Mukunda M vigorous massage to remove eye bags/circles”

      The most helpful ones are:
(Using both hands together) massage with palms and front of fingers held together
      (1) Do long up and down sweeps close to nose from chin area up to near eyes.
      (2) Do another up and back at an angle from chin point to cheek bone.
      (3) Do fast up and down massage close to eye from cheek bones at an angle of 45 degrees (on your crows feet).
Best if do for several minutes daily – will markedly tighten skin in eye area and diminish the circles in the first two or three days. Use any oil. Olive is good.
IMPORTANT: To avoid skin pulling first make facial skin taught by partially opening mouth and pulling lips firmly back against teeth (tightens most of face)

Use any natural oil. Extra virgin olive oil works well for many.
Additionally facial yoga exercises help a great deal. Find on You Tube. Do the “The lion face” and try to hold for 30 seconds. A variation of that is protruding the tongue as if trying to touch tip of nose with tip of tongue.

YOGA MEDITATION is a great help and is easy to do. It enables you to completely relax and gives you deep, restful sleep. 6 or 7 hours of restful sleep is considerably more beneficial than 8 or 9 more hours of non restful sleep. I found Siddha Yoga meditation was the most beneficial.

Here is a trick I learned from a Hollywood makeup artist

Get a huge bowl and fill it with ice and water make sure it is really cold almost freezing

the best thing to do is actually put the ice cubes in a zip lock bag and then put them in the water you really do not want the ice to touch your skin.
Then put your whole face in the water for as long as you can hold your breath
do it several times till you just cant stand it any more.

I know some people (famous actors) that us a skin divers snorkel and keep there face in the water for up to 5 min

it does the same thing as the cucumber trick only 100 times better.

what it does is get rid of dark circles under your eyes and tighten up your skin and makes you look great in general the effects last for hours try it today and see if it works for you.

well um, well, if u have powder, u can blend that with a little moisturizer or water and apply to dark areas…

um, avon concealer can really help. avon sells an “eye brightener” too with an installed brush. i have it and it really opens my eyes because it has “pearls” that gives a shimmer to it. its like $3 and its really cheap but works really well.

i know that if you want to get rid of puffiness around the eye area, you can use two soaked green tea bags and place them over your eyes or you can use a cold spoon (as in you refridgerate it before use) and then you place them over each eye for 10 seconds. i’m not sure if it said that it helps dark eye circles but you can try!

just soak the tea bags over night, that way the next morning its ready to go. just place them over for about 30 seconds.
and also, for the cold spoon, refridgerate it over night also. :) i hope i helped!

    • Jess says:

Common Causes of Dark Circles Under Eyes

      Thinning skin
The skin under the eyes is thin and delicate to begin with. As we age, skin and the fat pad under the eyes becomes thinner, causing blood vessels to become noticeable. This gives the appearance of dark circles. Sun damage can make it worse because it weakens skin.

      Allergies and Hayfever
Dark circles under the eyes can be the result of allergies to airborne substances, such as pollen, dust, and pet dander, because people rub their itchy eyes. People with hayfever may notice them at the height of the season. Food allergies or sensitivities can also contribute to dark circles.

      Genetics
Dark circles under the eyes runs in families. They tend to be more noticeable in people with fair skin or deep-set eyes.

      Fluid Retention
Blood vessels under the eyes can become dilated and engorged, which can contribute to dark circles. Excess dietary salt and smoking are common causes. Conditions that cause fluid retention (e.g. heart, thyroid, kidney, liver diseases) or medications that cause blood vessel dilation may be a factor. Your doctor should be aware of any symptoms you’re experiencing.

      Lack of sleep
A lack of sleep can make skin appear more pale, which allows blood vessels to be more visible through the skin, giving the appearance of bluish or dark circles.

      Iron Deficiency Anemia
Iron deficiency anemia may cause a bluish tinge below the eyes.

      Dehydration
Dark circles under the eyes can be a sign of dehydration.
Remedies for Dark Circles Under the Eyes

There are some home remedies that may help to temporarily diminish the appearance of dark circles under the eyes, and prevent dark circles from worsening.

      1. Be sure to drink enough water. Hydration Calculator: How much water do you need?

      2. Wear sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 under the eyes to prevent skin weakening caused by sun damage.

      3. Get plenty of rest.

      4. Apply plain cool teabags over closed eyes. Don’t use herbal teabags, because most aren’t as effective.

      5. Apply cool cucumber slices over closed eyes for 15 minutes.

      6. Be careful not to consume too much dietary salt. Start by learning about sources of sodium in the diet.

      7. Apply vitamin K cream. Although studies haven’t looked at the use of topical vitamin K for dark circles under the eyes, preliminary studies have found that vitamin K may help with bruising.

      8. Vitamin C helps to strengthen blood vessel walls. Quiz: Are you getting enough vitamin C?

      9. The dietary supplements grape seed extract and pycnogenol contain antioxidant pigments that may help to strengthen blood vessels. They should be used under medical supervision by people on “blood-thinning” drugs such as Coumadin (warfarin) and aspirin.

Certain foods, such as cranberries, blueberries, bilberries, tea (green and black), black currant, onions, legumes, and parsley also contain these antioxidant pigments.

      10. Eat kidney-balancing foods. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, a bluish cast under the eyes are due to an imbalance in kidney energy.

you could use cucumber slices and wet cotton pads (cold) to place them on your eyes lids, while closed.
Leave this on for 10 to 12 minutes, will help relax the veins in your eyes and rid the darkness. Try this 2-3 times a week, splash your eyes regularly with cool water.

    • Ifrica says:

•Look for health links that might be the underlying cause of the dark circles. Some possibilities include seasonal allergies, dehydration, eczema, hay fever and mold allergies. If these are possibilities, it is best to contact a doctor for suggestions on treating the underlying cause. If you’d prefer, however, to take matters into your own hands, try avoiding the source of the allergen. Talk with your local pharmacist about possible over-the-counter allergy or eczema medications.

Hydrate yourself well. Very few people get enough fluid intake on a daily basis. In some men this can result in dark circles under the eyes. Strive to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day. If you don’t like the taste of plain water, add a spritz of lemon or lime for a light and refreshing taste. Most people find that by keeping a water bottle filled with cold water with them throughout the day, it is much easier to meet the goal of drinking eight glasses per day.

Sleep. This is one of the more common causes for dark under eye circles. Try to get 6-8 hours of sleep each night. Be aware of how you sleep, too. Men who sleep with their faces mashed into their pillows tend to have more facial swelling. While that won’t necessary cause the dark circles, it will certainly exacerbate the situation. Adding puffiness to the dark circles will only make them look worse.

Adjust the temperature around your eyes. While it may sound crazy, there are ways to do this and reasons to do it as well. Dark circles are often more prevalent in men during warm weather. By applying cooling compresses on the eye area for ten to fifteen minutes per day, you can in effect change the temperature around your eyes. This should help minimize the look of the dark circles.

Plumping up the area under the eye can also be helpful, especially if you are a fairly thin person. Vitamin E cream will plump up the under eye area and diminish the look of dark circles.
